Segment 3 – Father of the Republic
George Washington, our first president, was a great military and political leader. He was also a humble dedicated servant of God. His prayer in June of 1779 was recorded . Near his headquarters on the Hudson River, General George Washington prayed ….
“And now, Almighty Father, if it is Thy holy will that we shall obtain a place and name among the nations of the earth, grant that we may be enabled to show our gratitude for Thy goodness by our endeavors to fear and obey Thee. Bless us with Thy wisdom in our counsels, success in battle, and let all our victories be tempered with humanity. Endow, also our enemies with enlightened minds, that they become sensible of their injustice, and willing to restore our liberty and peace. Grant the petition of Thy servant , for the sake of Him whom Thou hast called Thy beloved Son; nevertheless, not my will, but Thine be done.” #1
At the conclusion of the Revolutionary War, Washington sent a letter to all thirteen governors of the thirteen states. On June 14, 1783 he stated:
“I now make it my earnest prayer that God would have you, and the State over which you preside, in His holy protection… that He would most graciously be pleased to dispose to us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind, which were characteristics of the Devine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to be a happy nation.” #2
It is clear that our founders laid the foundation of our nation, our Constitution on God. Our Constitution rests upon God given, self-evident truths. Our nation is founded upon moral absolutes. These absolutes are not opinions of a group of people. One plus one equals two – Self evident. Whether I do not like it, or it offends me, it is a truth, If fifty one percent of the people say gravity is not relevant today as it was in the days of our founding, it does not change a truth. Self-evident. These moral absolutes, these truths are not for debate, nor subject to anyone’s approval of control.
Every attack against our liberty, whether foreign or domestic, has a focal point. Eliminate the moral absolutes, Get rid of good. Change love into a selfish endeavor. Get rid of God. Get rid of our strength, One nation under God. Get God out of our schools. Get God out of our entertainment, our town square, our public places, our military, the office and staff of every Senator, Representative, Judge, President, and Department of our nation. Liberty cannot exist in a society without moral absolutes.
Our Constitution was framed to establish a government that would secure these God endowed rights to every single individual. Lets look further into the preamble of our birth certificate, a nation conceived in liberty.
