We see government as an entity that is established to protect the rights of its citizens, provide only those essential services that are beneficial to its citizens as a whole, and support those services within a reasonable tax structure. |

Our Guiding Principles
Government
We believe good government is the privilege to serve the people of Westbrook, who own this town, with services that help protect, guide, and maintain liberty, justice, domestic tranquility, and promotion of the general welfare.
Financial Management & Oversight
We believe we have an obligation to the people who elected us to use public funds in a frugal manner to ensure the wisest use of our taxes. Our responsible economic development should incorporate easing the tax burden of our residents.
Education
We are committed to the people who elected us in ensuring our children are provided a classical education which teaches science, math, reading, writing, civics, history, and critical thinking. This process must be apolitical. We are devoted to helping our children grow up to be productive young men and women who will contribute to a flourishing civil society rooted in the family, the community, and the nation.
Environment and Energy
We are thankful that our town ancestors bequeathed us a beautiful environment with open spaces available for all of our residents as well as for visitors to our community. We are mindful of our duty to pass this on to future generations, and we will support prudent environmental and energy policies that foster these goals.
Land Use
We believe land must be stewarded for the people who own this town. We are mindful of the importance of promoting and guiding responsible economic development that enhances our town.
Our History
Our History
We stand on the shoulders of giants in our nation - the ideas, truths, and values handed to us by our founders. Out town, first settled in 1648, was originally established as part of the Saybrook Colony. The town of Westbrook was originally known as Pochoug or West Saybrook, and it became incorporated as Westbrook in 1840. The Saybrook Colony is one of the oldest settlements in Connectecticut.
We are the Constitution State
The Fundamental Orders of 1639, inspired by a sermon by Reverend Thomas Hooker, were "voted in" on January 14, 1638. This document is widely regarded as the first constitution known to history. Among many things declared in the document, was that "The foundation of civil authority of men is laid in the free consent of the people".
Preamble of the Constitution of the State of Connecticut
The People of Connecticut acknowledging with gratitude, the good providence of God, in having permitted them to enjoy a free government; do, in order more effectually to define, secure, and perpetuate the liberties, rights and privileges which they have derived from their ancestors; hereby, after a careful consideration and revision, ordain and establish the following constitution and form of civil government.
